Welcome
This year, the English ministries of the southern California Evangelical Formosan Churches will host our annual winter retreat at Pine Summit Christian Camps for four days and three nights over the Christmas break. Come worship, fellowship, and grow! You’ll meet many people from other EFC churches!
There will be two separate tracks for the campers. Everyone will meet together for joint worship and then break into two groups:
Junior High, High School, College, and Adult combined
Children
Campers are assigned to small groups for junior high and up (typically anywhere from 4 to 10 people) to help facilitate deeper discussions after each of the messages. Children have their own lesson, which is related to the theme in the adult program but on a kid level. Lesson activities include Bible memory verses, crafts, and games.

Dr. Richard Cook
Track: Junior High, High School, College, and Adult
Richard Cook is Associate Professor of Church History and Missions at Logos Evangelical Seminary in El Monte, California and serves as Director of the M.A.I.C.S. Program. He came to Logos in 2011. He served as a missionary and seminary professor in Taiwan for over ten years, and before coming to Logos he taught Missions and Chinese Church History at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago (2003-2011). He has MDiv and ThM degrees from TEDS and a PhD in Modern Chinese History from the University of Iowa. He is the author of Darkest Before the Dawn: A Brief History of the Rise of Christianity in China, published by Pickwick Publications (2021) and Expanding the Boundaries: 23 People Who Built the Christian Church, (為神拓疆的工匠──23位貫穿教會歷史的精品人物) published by Tien Dao Publishing House (2022) (in Chinese).
Rick, along with his Taiwanese wife Pei Fang and three children, blew into LA in a Penske rental truck in 2011. Natives from Chicago and Taiwan, they quickly settled comfortably into southern California, loving the sun and mosquito-free environment. The three siblings all stayed in the Golden State, graduating from Cal Poly Pomona, Harvey Mudd College, and UCSB. Rick ventured to the area to take a position at Logos Evangelical Seminary in El Monte, and shortly after arriving the family found a home at EFCLA. In 2016 Rick participated in the establishment of Generations Church LA, an English-language EFC congregation in Temple City.
Richard and his wife Pei Fang live in Glendora, CA and they have three adult children.
Child Evangelism Fellowship
Track: Children
Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) has been used by God since 1937. CEF is a Bible-centered organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living. In the last ministry year, CEF workers worldwide reached over 25.4 million children with the Good News of Jesus Christ and 10.4 million children made a first time profession of faith in Jesus.
Olumide and Deanna have been happily married for three years. They love to teach young children about God’s Word and about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They also enjoy having picnics at the park, watching movies together, playing board games, and spending time with family.
Olumide (Olu) has been serving with CEF for over ten years. He is the Local Coordinator for the CEF Ventura County Chapter. Olu has been involved in different aspects of ministry for many years from speaking, mentoring, organizing ministry events, teacher training, telling bible stories to children, and more.
Deanna has been serving with CEF for over 12 years. She works at the CEF Southern California State Office, teaches Good News Club (an after school Bible Club) at three elementary schools, helps train teachers on how to share the gospel with children, organizes ministry events, and more.
