Welcome

This year, the English ministries of the southern California Evangelical Formosan Churches will host our annual winter retreat at Pine Summit Christian Camps for four days and three nights over the Christmas break. Come worship, fellowship, and grow! You’ll meet many people from other EFC churches!

There will be two separate tracks for the campers. Everyone will meet together for joint worship and then break into two groups:

  • Junior High, High School, College, and Adult combined

  • Children

Campers are assigned to small groups for junior high and up (typically anywhere from 4 to 10 people) to help facilitate deeper discussions after each of the messages. Children have their own lesson, which is related to the theme in the adult program but on a kid level. Lesson activities include Bible memory verses, crafts, and games.

Child Evangelism Fellowship

Track: Children

Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) has been used by God since 1937. CEF is a Bible-centered organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living. In the last ministry year, CEF workers worldwide reached over 25.4 million children with the Good News of Jesus Christ and 10.4 million children made a first time profession of faith in Jesus.

Olumide and Deanna have been happily married for three years. They love to teach young children about God’s Word and about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They also enjoy having picnics at the park, watching movies together, playing board games, and spending time with family.

Olumide (Olu) has been serving with CEF for over seven years. He is the Local Coordinator for the CEF Ventura County Chapter. Olu has been involved in different aspects of ministry for many years from speaking, mentoring, organizing ministry events, teacher training, telling bible stories to children, and more.

Deanna has been serving with CEF for over nine years. She works at the CEF Southern California State Office, teaches Good News Club (an after school Bible Club) at three elementary schools, helps train teachers on how to share the gospel with children, organizes ministry events, and more.

Workshops

Workshops are an important part of Winter Retreat. It gives campers the opportunity to choose among different topics that interest them. Topics and sessions are subject to change. That's just the way it is.

DISC Personality Styles
Pastor KC Liu, EFC Irvine

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Would you like to improve your relationships with your family, your classmates, your colleagues, or your coworkers at church? The key to building better relationships is through mutual understanding - of yourself, and of others. Do you understand the reason why you respond to people the way you do?

There are four basic personality styles identified by great thinkers. We know them today as D.I.S.C. Personality Styles: Dominate, Influential, Steady, and Conscientious. All people are a combination of all four styles, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Come find out why people behave the way they do, and learn to work with them with wisdom and understanding.

A Pastor’s Perspective
Pastor Tommy Wang, EFC Orange County

Some of us have been Christians most of our lives. Others are relatively new to the faith.  And some are currently unsure of what we believe. Wherever you fall on that spectrum, we all wrestle with deep questions about life, faith and God. This is an open forum to dialogue – to raise real questions we have about God and the Christian faith and hopefully gain some clarity.

Building Deep Relationships
Pastor Leona Chen-Wong, EFC Arcadia

There are many approaches to evangelism and missions. We live in a knowledge based and post-modern society. In today’s society it is not information, but rather healthy relationships that are lacking.

This workshop will give some tools to better interact with our friends, neighbors and strangers (including ways to open up spiritual conversations with a loving heart). Join us in getting equipped!

From LA to the End of the Earth
Pastor Will Chen, EFC General Assembly

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8

In the summer of 1970, a group of Taiwanese American Christians in Los Angeles had a dream—to be able to worship God in their native language. On October 11, 1970, Evangelical Formosan Church was born. As EFC celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020, there are now 146 EFC churches world wide.

As EFC continues to grow in the 21st century, we are calling out for more dreamers for God! Whether you consider yourself “First Gen,” “Second Gen,” or “1.5 Generation,” you are invited to enter this conversation as we look back at the history of EFC and look forward to how we can effectively plant churches to bring the gospel from LA to the end of the earth!

How to share the Gospel
Pastor Pauline Lim, EFC South Bay

Have you known the Gospel your whole life, yet have the hardest time sharing it with your non-believing friends, family members, and even strangers? Does your heart start racing and your hands get sweaty when your pastor mentions to go witnessing and share the Gospel?

If you answered yes, then you and I are on the same page! I have struggled and felt convicted my whole life to tell others about Jesus, but I have come to learn that it’s not as crazy or difficult as we think it is. Come see and learn how we can share the Gospel to the people we care about the most!

MISSION I-M-POSSIBLE
Pastor Jacky Yang and Charlotte Yang, EFC Los Angeles

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1

Have you ever thought about going on a mission trip? Compared to our life in America and other developed countries, there are many people living in poverty around the world. We would like to use our personal mission experiences and a simulation game for you to contemplate how you can do to respond to God’s call in both local and global missions.
